Early this morning, at about 12:30 am, the Novato Police Department received a report of three people trespassing in the laundry room at Wyndover Apartments (located at 805 Diablo Ave).  The three were reported as possibly being homeless and not associated with any apartment at the complex. 

When officers arrived, they met Ivan O’Day, Patricia Lopez and Robert Knight. The three were in fact trespassing and not associated with apartment complex.  A few minutes after officers contacted the group, O’Day attempted to flee. While doing so, he struck an officer.  O’Day was quickly taken into custody after a short struggle where O’Day continuously attempted to escape. 

After O’Day was arrested, he was found to be in possession of loaded firearm on his person. Additionally, O’Day, a convicted felon, was found to be in possession of a large butcher knife and large amount of suspected methamphetamine.  All the items were concealed on his person when he was contacted by officers. 

The investigation also revealed that Patricia Lopez had a warrant for her arrest out of Sonoma County. Lopez was in possession of suspected methamphetamine and other drug paraphernalia.  At the same time, Robert Knight was found to also be in possession of a large amount of methamphetamine. Evidence located suggested he was selling drugs. 

All three were booked into Marin County Jail.  One of the officers involved in the altercation sustained minor injuries and was able to immediately return to work.

The Novato Police Department would like to thank the citizen that assisted with the successful apprehension of these three suspects.
