Advisory

Winter Storm Watch until 09:00AM Friday

A very intense storm system is expected to track east across North Central Texas and southern Oklahoma Thursday through Friday. A surface dryline will move into western North Texas Thursday morning with breezy south and southwest winds across the area. A strong surface low pressure system and cold front will then move across the area through the day with falling afternoon temperatures behind the cold front across western North Texas during the afternoon and evening hours. A vigorous upper low disturbance will be lagging west behind this system. Though temperatures should remain at or just above freezing, the rain mixing with wet snow, or possibly transitioning Thursday night and early Friday to brief bursts of all wet snow will likely cause impacts across the Winter Storm Watch area. This system and the wintry weather potential will shift east of the watch area later Friday morning.

* WHAT...A mix of rain and heavy snow, possibly transitioning to all wet snow at times. Total snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches possible. In addition, winds could gust between 40 to 50 mph, but snow is expected to be wet in nature and not blow around.

* WHERE...Generally along and west of U.S. 281 from Jacksboro, to Mineral Wells, to Evant.

* WHEN...From late Thursday afternoon through early Friday morning.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...With bursts of occasional heavy wet snow, travel could become very difficult, especially on elevated surfaces and Ranger Hill on Interstate 20. The hazardous conditions could impact both the Thursday evening and early Friday morning commute. In addition, the very gusty north and northwest winds could bring down tree branches and likely impact travel for high-profile vehicles such as semi-trucks, RV's, and campers, especially on east-west highways.

* AFFECTED AREAS: COMANCHE ... MILLS ... EASTLAND ... PALO PINTO ... JACK ... STEPHENS ... YOUNG ... ERATH

Instructions:

A Winter Storm Watch means there is potential for significant snow, sleet or ice accumulations that may impact travel. Continue to monitor the latest forecasts.
