Roads in and around Broad River south of Black Mtn are already deteriorating becoming Icy. Motorists should be well informed of this storm, seek shelter and remain there until it’s safe to travel again. One motorist has already become stuck on what’s known in McDowell County as Big Hill aka Crooked Creek Rd. Officials there have requested DOT to close it down. Roads are not what they appear and most have ice under the snow. Fire Department personnel will do anything possible to assist anyone in need however all vehicles have their limitations so travel at your own risk. Broad River FD will not use apparatus to pull vehicles back into the roadway. We will transport stranded motorists if needed to our Community Center and shelter until arrangements can be made. We urge everyone to Stay Off the roads.
