Investigation Leads to Multiple Guns and Arrests

In early November of 2018, patrol officers conducted an enforcement stop in the 1900 block of N. Texas Street. The stop yielded three illegally possessed handguns and the arrest of 19-year-old Vacaville resident Nathan Rhines. One of the firearms was determined to be stolen from out of state, while the other two were unregistered. Rhines was also found to be in possession of a controlled substance. Rhines was booked into the county jail on a number of weapons and drug violations.
Special Operations Team (SOT) detectives began looking at the case, following up on intelligence gathering and a potential gang association. On December 6th, 2018 SOT detectives continued their investigation and conducted an enforcement stop on an associated vehicle in the 800 block of Jackson Street. Detectives were able to search the vehicle and occupants, and recovered two additional illegally possessed firearms and controlled substances. From this enforcement stop, 19-year-old Suisun City resident Joseph Benitez and 21-year-old Fairfield resident Joshua Saavedra were arrested on various weapons and drug violations.
The investigation is on-going and no further information will be released at this time. The Fairfield Police Department wishes everyone Happy Holidays and to stay safe.
