Winter Storm Warning until 07:00PM Monday

A developing winter storm will spread wintry precipitation across central NC late Saturday night, with accumulating snow, sleet, and freezing rain likely continuing into Monday. Confidence that a significant winter storm will occur has increased and the watch has been upgraded to a warning in the northern and northwest Piedmont, with the Watch expanded to the east.

* WHAT...Significant accumulations of snow is expected, with some sleet and freezing rain. Total snow and sleet accumulations of 6 to 10 inches, with up to a tenth of an inch of freezing rain is expected. The greatest snow accumulations are expected to the northwest of Lexington and Greensboro, with greater amounts of sleet and freezing rain to the east. The heaviest precipitation is expected to occur from 4am to 4pm on Sunday.

* WHERE...The northwest and northern Piedmont, including the Triad.

* WHEN...Late Saturday night through Monday evening.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Travel will become very difficult, if not impossible, Sunday morning, with hazardous travel conditions expected to continue into Monday. In addition, there is the potential for scattered power outages from significant accumulations of snow and ice.
