Violent man with outstanding warrant apprehended thanks to fixed LPR

A few months ago, the Marietta Police Department (MPD) quietly installed the first of many planned fixed License Plate Readers (LPR).  Earlier this morning that LPR alerted officers on duty.  With some quick investigative work, the officers were able to identify the license plate reported as being associated with a man wanted for Aggravated Assault and Robbery.  The arrest warrant for the suspect, 18-W-10918, was secured on November 23, 2018.  Due to the LPR notification, officers were able to locate and arrest the suspect that may have otherwise continued hiding in plain sight.

While we cannot reveal the location of the new fixed LPR, we can tell you this is the first arrest since it’s installation a few months ago.  Meetings with business owners and apartment complex managers are being held to discuss additional fixed LPR locations around the city.  We plan to install additional units in the coming months.  Strategically implementing technology will enable us to continue to reduce crime within our city. We appreciate the businesses that are partnering with us and look forward to continued success with this program.
