MORE WINTER WEATHER HEADED TO NEW MEXICO TOWARD THE END OF THE
WORK WEEK...
A Pacific storm, currently offshore of southern California, will
move over New Mexico Friday and be preceded by a backdoor cold
front across the eastern plains on Thursday. The Pacific storm
will be warmer than the last system and snow levels will be
relatively high across western New Mexico, with impacts likely
relegated to above 7,500 feet. At this time, accumulating snowfall
is not expected in Albuquerque. However, significant winter
weather impacts are possible east of the central mountain chain
due to the cold air behind the backdoor cold front. A mix of
wintry precipitation, including freezing rain and sleet, is
possible across the eastern plains early Friday through early
Saturday. The main threat area will be near the Texas border and
will include locales such as Tucumcari, Fort Sumner, Clovis and
Portales. Significant improvement is expected by Saturday
afternoon.
Those with travel or outdoor plans early Friday into the weekend
should monitor the latest forecast at weather.gov/abq or your
preferred media outlet.
