Incident Summary

Petaluma PD officers were dispatched to the report of a fight at a local nightclub, in which the suspect was being detained by bystanders and staff.  The reporting party advised the suspect bit a victim’s finger off, and that victim was being taken to a hospital.  Officers arrived and contacted the suspect, identified as Daniel Yurkovich, who appeared intoxicated.  He was detained without incident.  Other officers located the 32-year-old victim and confirmed the near amputation of his ring finger.

The investigation revealed Yurkovich caught the attention of many patrons prior to the fight due to his odd behavior.  At one point, he approached a random patron and attacked him in an unprovoked manner.  Other patrons then attempted to physically restrain Yurkovich, who was on top of and punching the patron.  Yurkovich then turned his attention to one of the patrons attempting to restrain him, and attacked him, biting his finger in the process.  Surveillance video captured the incident.

Yurkovich was booked into the Sonoma County Jail for the crime of mayhem.  The victim was transported to a hospital, where efforts were being made to save his finger.  Officers were unable to locate the initial patron.  Any persons with additional information are encouraged to call Petaluma PD.
