PHONE SCAM ALERT!

Simi Valley Police Department would like to alert the community regarding the latest United States Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) phone scam. The scam begins with a telephone call to an unsuspecting victim. The caller identifies himself as a DEA Agent and tells the victim they have located a vehicle in Texas which is registered in the victim’s name. The fictitious DEA Agent informs the victim that there is a large quantity of drugs and blood inside the vehicle. As the conversation progresses, the caller asks victim for some personal information such as their social security number and bank account numbers. Unfortunately, a couple of elderly Simi Valley residents provided their social security numbers to a caller who represented himself as a DEA Agent this morning.

These types of criminals do not discriminate, but often prey on the elderly. Please remind your family and friends that no legitimate government or law enforcement official will randomly contact you by phone and ask for personal information such as your social security number or bank account numbers.

The Simi Valley Police Department is advising Simi Valley residents to hang up on these callers and not to follow their instructions.

Should you have information regarding a phone scam or other crime, please contact the Simi Valley Police Department at (805) 583-6950.
