INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Central Road / Powhatan Road

DRIVER #1: 57-year-old female, resident of Apple Valley (name withheld pending family notification) Driving a black Honda Civic
PASSENGER: Desiree Ramirez, 43 years old, resident of Apple Valley

DRIVER #2: Jackie Roberts-Barron, 34 years old, resident of Apple Valley
Driving a Chevrolet Avalanche

SUMMARY:
On November 28, 2018, at 5:50 a.m. a black Honda Civic, occupied by the driver, a 57-year-old female (name pending notification of next of kin) and passenger Desiree Ramirez, was travelling westbound on Powhatan Road approaching the intersection of Central Road. The driver of the Honda Civic failed to stop at the posted stop sign and proceeded into the intersection. Jackie Roberts-Barron was driving northbound on Central Road in her 2006 Chevrolet Avalanche and collided into the side of the Honda Civic. The force of the collision caused both vehicles to come to rest on the north/west corner of the intersection.

Deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station responded as well as personnel from Apple Valley Fire Protection District and American Medical Response. Upon arrival of emergency services, it was determined that both occupants of the Honda Civic were suffering from major injuries and Roberts-Barron was suffering from minor to moderate injuries. Jackie Roberts-Barron was transported to St. Mary's Hospital with minor to moderate injuries. Desiree Ramirez was airlifted to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center via Mercy Air with major injuries. The female driver of the Honda Civic was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Deputies from the Apple Valley Station Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene to conduct the investigation. Central Road was closed between Shawnee Road and Ottawa Road while Deputies investigated the scene. The cause of the collision is currently under investigation by the Apple Valley Station Major Accident Investigation Team.
