Aurora Deploys Full Snow Team

Aurora Snow Team Update | November 25, 2018 | 6:30 p.m. This afternoon, the City of Aurora deployed its full Aurora Snow Team fleet in advance of the impending snowstorm. The National Weather Service has issue a Blizzard Warning for the area with anticipated snow accumulations of up to 12 inches. Consequently, road conditions could be very poor with limited visibility during the storm, which could impact snow clearing operations at times. The warning is in effect until tomorrow morning. The Aurora Snow Team will have continuous operations on all 36 snow routes during the storm - with a focus and priority on primary roadways and major thoroughfares. With additional assistance from local contractors, residential operations will commence toward the end of the snow event. SAFETY WHILE DRIVING The City is encouraging residents to limit driving during the snow. When driving, do so with a reduced speed and pay special attention on bridges, overpasses and intersections where slick spots may form. Also, be careful when interacting with snow plows by staying a minimum of 75 feet behind them and never attempt to pass them. PARKING ON STREETS Refrain from parking on City streets and alleys. The City's snow parking ordinance prohibits parking on any street or alley during or after a snowfall of two inches or more until the street has been plowed to the curb or road edge. Failure to comply can lead to a ticket and vehicle tow that will cost a minimum of $150.00, plus applicable storage and release fees. CHECK ON OTHERS During inclement weather, remember to check in on elderly neighbors and those who may have special needs. Aurora has many warming centers throughout the city where residents in need may visit at designated hours. A list of warming centers is available at www.aurora-il.org/WarmingCenters. Also, protect pets from winter elements by providing proper shelter. A FEW OTHER DO’S AND DON’TS: Do not shovel snow into the street when clearing driveways. Do help to keep fire hydrants cleared of snow so they can be accessed quickly in an emergency. Do not leave running vehicles unattended, whether locked or unlocked.
