THREE ARRESTED FOR ATTEMPT MURDER IN GANG RELATED
BEATING

Modesto, CA - On Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at approximately 9:00 a.m., three separate search and arrest warrants were served at separate Modesto homes. The warrants were served in an attempt to locate suspects and evidence in a Christmas Eve gang-related assault.

Today’s search warrants were conducted following an assault that occurred on December 24th at Muncy Park by multiple suspects. Investigators believe the 18-year-old victim was attacked by a group of subjects and beaten in the head and body with wooden and metal objects at Muncy Park. The victim received major injuries including head trauma and broken bones during the assault.

Officers were able to identify two sixteen-year-olds as responsible in the attack. A third subject, Sandeep Anand, 29 years, of Modesto, was also identified as assisting the juveniles in the attack on the victim, and was arrested during the sweep. All three subjects are being charged with attempted murder and criminal gang enhancements. All three have been linked to, or claim to be, members of a “Norteno” street gang. At least one of the weapons used in the assault was located during the arrests.

Members of the Gang Investigations Unit sought the search warrants and they were served with the assistance of the Gang Investigations Unit, Street Gang Unit, Modesto Narcotic Enforcement Team, along with investigators from the Modesto Police Investigative Services Division and CVGIT, a multi-jurisdictional gang taskforce.

Anand was taken into custody at his house on the 1800 block of Wylie and later booked at the Stanislaus County Jail for attempted murder and gang enhancements. The two juveniles were located at one of their residences after it was surrounded by team members and they were called out. The initially refused to come out of the house, but they were eventually brought out of the residence by police. Both were booked at the Stanislaus County Juvenile Hall for attempted murder and gang enhancements. Two other juveniles who were at the same residence were cited for resisting/delaying officers after refusing to come out.
