While backing a boat into the water at Station Creek Landing on St. Helena Island this morning, the driver of a pickup truck lost control and backed into the water. The driver was able to escape without injury, but the pickup truck and trailer with the boat attached are submerged. Personnel from the Sheriff's Office, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Beaufort Water Search and Rescue are on scene working to recover the vehicle, trailer and boat. The Station Creek Landing will be closed during the recovery operation, which is anticipated to take several hours.
