Patrol officers investigated a suicide in the parking of of a popular night club Wednesday night.

Wednesday, November 21, 2018, at 11:43 pm, Fremont dispatchers began receiving 911 calls reporting a shooting at the Saddle Rack (42000 block of Boscell Rd.).  Upon the initial report, multiple patrol units immediately responded.  As officers drove toward the scene, updated information from security indicated the shooting was a suicide in the south parking lot.

The first officer to arrive located a male suffering from a gun shot wound being treated by security.  A handgun, later confirmed to be registered to the male, was nearby.  The patrol officer immediately started CPR and field trauma care was provided until Fremont Fire arrived.  The male was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.

Based on witness statements and evidence at the scene, this is being investigated as a suicide.   The male is in his 30’s and the Alameda County Coroner will handle releasing the decedents name when determined appropriate.

The popular night club was very crowded, with estimated attendance in the hundreds, at the time of the incident.  Many patrons fled to nearby businesses upon learning of the shooting and the night club shut down as a result.  The 911 calls with detailed information helped our officers to very quickly determine this was an isolated incident in the parking lot.  There were no other injuries reported.

This is a tragic incident and we send our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the male.

We’d like to thank the security staff at the scene as well as our first responders for their quick response and actions to render first aid.  We are aware that neighboring law enforcement agencies were monitoring and beginning to respond, and we are grateful for their partnership to help protect and serve our community.  We would also like to thank the hundreds of patrons, many who were initially scared and panicked, for listening to police and following orders to clear the scene.
