Occurred Date : 11-9-2018
Occurred Time: 10:21 PM
Location: 200 block of Petaluma Blvd North
Victim: (Name not released) 25 year old female
Suspect: Gumerlindo L. Ordonez, 40 year old, Petaluma resident
Charges: Criminal Threats, Kidnapping and Burglary
Incident Summary:
On the above date and time, PPD officers responded to a check the welfare in Downtown Petaluma. The victim, who had consumed some alcohol, had become lost and called a friend for help. The victim had been attending an event at the Mystic Theater in Downtown Petaluma. Officers responded and began checking the Downtown area. At 11:15 PM, the Reporting Party (RP) called PPD back saying she located the victim sitting on a park bench near the Downtown Starbucks, sitting next to a Hispanic male. The friend thought the Hispanic male was attempting to help the victim find her friend. The Reporting Party stated she walked the victim to a local business, where she had the victim sit in an office while she finished some work. When she went to check on her in the office, she was gone. She said the victim had left her cell phone on a desk and thought that was unusual so she reviewed surveillance video from the business they were at and saw an unknown male take the victim from the office. At 12:09 AM, a second RP called PPD and reported that he just picked up a distraught female on D Street near Red Hill Road, and was bringing her to PPD. The female, turned out to be the original victim. The second RP stated the victim said she was fleeing from a suspect who had her in the back of his vehicle and was threatening to kill her. The second RP said the suspect vehicle was following him on D Street as he was trying to drive to the police department. The second RP reported the vehicle description, license plate and location to PPD and officers were able to stop the vehicle in Downtown Petaluma. The suspect’s vehicle was a 1997 Gold Toyota Camry. The driver was identified as Suspect Ordonez. The driver was initially arrested and booked for Criminal Threats. The suspect bailed out of jail on November 10th. PPD Detectives were assigned the case and immediately began conducting follow-up. Detectives re-interviewed the victim, reviewed newly obtained video surveillance, located and seized the suspect’s vehicle and were able to get an arrest warrant for the suspect for kidnapping and burglary. Suspect Ordonez was arrested on Friday, November 16th at PPD. PPD Detectives also served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence. The surveillance video shows Suspect Ordonez walking in the area of the office for several minutes before entering the business. The suspect is seen exiting the business holding up the victim and walking out with her to a vehicle. The original RP has identified Suspect Ordonez as the Hispanic Male originally sitting on the bench with the victim near Starbucks. The victim stated she did not know or had ever met Suspect Ordonez. Detectives are currently processing the suspect’s vehicle and evidence obtained from the suspect’s residence. This appears to be a stranger type of abduction.
