Suspect arrested in sexual assault
Incident: Suspect arrested for a sexual assault in Petaluma

Victim: ( Name not released) 51 year old, transient female
Suspect: Mark J. Lewis, 57 year old transient from Petaluma
Charges: Domestic Violence battery with injury, sexual assault and false imprisonment
Incident Summary:
On the above date and time, PPD officers were dispatched to a report of a sexual assault in the 100 block of Fairgrounds Drive. Officers contacted the victim and requested medical assistance due to injuries that the victim was suffering from. The victim told the officers that the suspect sexually assaulted her in his truck near Payran Street and Lindberg Lane. The suspect and victim have a recent dating relationship. After the assault, the victim said she was in the suspect’s vehicle near Fairground Drive and the suspect pusher her out of his moving vehicle. Witnesses in the area called 911. The victim was treated for complaint of pain to her ribs and minor lacerations. As officers were interviewing the victim, another officer who thought he recognized the suspect from previous contacts, responded to the Mary Isaak Homeless Shelter on Hopper Street. The officer located the suspect vehicle and the suspect inside it. The suspect was arrested without incident for the above charges. PPD Detectives were called in to complete the investigation. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle for evidence. The suspect was later transported to County Jail. PPD Detectives are attempting to locate any witnesses to this incident.
