                Detective Patrick Guion of the McDowell County Sheriff’s Office charged Oakley Lynn Sparks, 37, of 292 Memorial Park Road in Marion, with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon.
                Guion also charged Nicholas Cage Cordell, 23, of 292 Memorial Park Road in Marion, with accessory after the fact of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
                At 9:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, detectives were called to Mission Hospital McDowell in reference to the victim, 38-year-old Omar Tate, of Charlotte, suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.
                An investigation showed that Tate and Sparks got into an altercation at the home of a mutual acquaintance at 4779 U.S. 70 East in Nebo, and Sparks shot Tate once in the leg with a handgun.
                Detectives also learned that Cordell was present during the shooting.
                Additional charges and arrests are pending.
