On November 9^th, 2018,  at around 2:15 a.m., Novato Police Department officers responded to assist a person who reported that he was struck in the head with a gun. When officers arrived and spoke with the victim they provided him with medical assistance and asked Novato Fire District paramedics respond to the scene to assist. The victim was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. Continuing with their investigation, the victim and a witness told officers that Lamont Dean, a 48 year old Novato resident, was responsible for hitting the victim and that the crime was committed at an apartment on Mariner Way in Novato. Dean was later arrested near the intersection of Redwood Blvd and Landing Ct after he was spotted by Detectives walking away from the Mariner Way apartment. Detectives assigned to the NPD Investigations Section later served a search warrant at the apartment to search for and collect additional evidence related to the crime. Dean remains in custody and there is no existing threat to the public.
