Terroristic Threats made against Marietta Middle School. MPD Detectives make arrest. Story here:

DATE: November 6, 2018
Terroristic Threats made against the Marietta Middle School

On Sunday morning, November 4th, 2018 Marietta Middle School (MMS) principal Dr. Dayton Hibbs notified the Marietta Police Department (MPD) School Resource Officer assigned to the MMS that social media threats had been discovered against the school.  According to the posts that were brought to his attention by parents, someone was making threats to “shoot up the school.”  MPD detectives were notified and quickly began an investigation.  Thanks to cooperation from the concerned parents, students and faculty, MPD detectives identified a fourteen-year-old juvenile male suspect from Cobb County.  He was arrested yesterday afternoon and taken to the Cobb County Youth Detention Center (YDC) facing charges of Terroristic Threats.

The suspect has previous ties to the MMS but is not a student within the Marietta City School (MCS) district.  MCS Superintendent Dr. Grant Rivera noted: “I continue to be thankful for the ongoing partnership and collaboration with the MPD.  This should be a reminder to all students that they are responsible for their digital footprint and threats of violence within our schools will not be tolerated.”
