PRESS RELEASE - Traffic Fatality
On Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 at about 10:18 a.m., a fatal traffic accident involving one vehicle occurred on San Tomas Expressway and El Camino Real. The single occupant Mercedes Benz was traveling northbound San Tomas Expressway at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control of the vehicle as it crossed the intersection with El Camino Real. The vehicle struck a wooden electrical pole on the east side of the roadway. The force of the impact left the driver unresponsive and caused the vehicle to ignite in flames. The driver died at the scene.
The force of the impact also caused the electrical pole to break in half. Several residences that back up to the expressway were evacuated as a result of hanging power lines. Power to the area was disrupted for several hours.
The driver is only being identified as a 45-year old male resident of San Jose.
