Sherlock strikes again! #LASD CIS-JTF Swift investigative Work Prevents Illegal drugs from Entering L.A. County Jails

On October 31, 2018, detectives assigned to the Custody Investigative Services Jail Task Force (CIS-JTF) and Operation Safe Jails (OSJ) were assigned to investigate a conspiracy to transport illegal narcotics into the Los Angeles County Jail system.

After an extensive investigation, detectives from CIS-JTF, along with their elite K-9 partner, “Sherlock,” served a search warrant at the suspect’s residence in the Los Angeles area.  The search of the location resulted in (1) felony arrest and the recovery of over 50 grams methamphetamine.

The approximate jail value of the recovered narcotics was over $40,000. The methamphetamine was uniquely packaged and ready for delivery into our custody facilities.

This is the second time in a week, “Sherlock” has aided deputies in disrupting criminals plan to smuggle drugs into the Los Angeles County Jails.

At this time, due the nature of an ongoing investigation the names of the suspects are not being released.  For further information contact Lt. Roberto Medrano at (323) 526-5284.

The Custody Investigative Services Unit is responsible for custody investigations ranging from assaults, gang crimes and regularly collaborates with other LASD investigative units.  In keeping with one of the tenets of our departmental mission to maintain a constitutionally sound and rehabilitative approach to incarceration, safety of our inmates and jail facilities is a top priority.  We want the public to know personnel assigned to our custody facilities work diligently to keep our jails safe for employees and incarcerated personnel.
