In partnership with RapidSOS and Rave Mobile Safety, the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety has enhanced the location information received by the 9-1-1 Center when a person calls 9-1-1 from a an iPhone or Android smartphone.
The first and most important question in every 9-1-1 call is “What’s the location of your emergency?” Knowing the caller’s location is the first step to dispatching life-saving emergency responders. With the implementation of the RapidSOS NG911 Clearinghouse with Rave Mobile Safety’s Smart911 solution, Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety is now able to receive fast and accurate location data for 9-1-1 calls placed from an iPhone with iOS 12 or any Android phone running version 4.0 and up.
“We are very pleased that the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety is one of the first public safety agencies in the Bay Area to have this technology available in the City of Sunnyvale. This technology will help our public safety department respond to 9-1-1 calls made from cellular phones more efficiently, and I think every public safety agency should adopt this technology,” said Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety Chief Phan Ngo.
The RapidSOS NG911 Clearinghouse is a centralized and secure location information server and additional data repository that is purpose-built for public safety.
