Short Vehicle Pursuit Ends in Collision***UPDATE***

The continuing investigation was able to determine the driver of the suspect vehicle, a 22 year old male Fairfield resident, was shot by the 24 year old female passenger of the suspect vehicle. A firearm has been located in the suspect vehicle. The shooting appears to have occurred during the vehicle pursuit after the female passenger called out for help to the police officer. The driver has died of his injuries and his identity is being withheld while his next of kin are located and notified.
The female and male are believed to be in a relationship and live together. In the suspect vehicle during the pursuit was a ten month old child. The child was not injured as a result of the incident. The identity of the female is being withheld based on the fact the incident is considered domestic violence.
The intersection of East Travis Boulevard and Dover Avenue is expected to remain closed for several hours as the collection of evidence and documentation of the scene is completed. An update will follow when the roadway is opened to through traffic.

On October 25, 2018, at approximately 2:34 pm a Fairfield Police Officer attempted to stop a motor vehicle for a violation. The vehicle did not stop for the officer, and a short pursuit began. Moments later the pursuit ended in the intersection of Dover Avenue and East Travis Boulevard when the suspect vehicle collided with other vehicles in the intersection. Officers quickly discovered the driver of the suspect car had suffered from an apparent gunshot.
Officers immediately began to provide medical aid to the driver of the suspect car. The driver was transported by ambulance to a local trauma center for life-threatening injuries. No officers discharged their firearms during this incident, and there are no outstanding suspects.
