Sheriff’s Office to Add Instant Messaging

Sheriff Walt Wilson announced that the Tuscarawas County Sheriff’s Office is launching an instant messaging service that will allow subscribers to receive trusted information sent out by the Sheriff’s Office through secure text messages and emails. The messages will also be posted to a Twitter account and the Sheriff’s alert web page as well. In conjunction with, a free community information service for authorized government agencies, the Sheriff’s Office will have the ability to communicate time-sensitive, geographically-targeted information to anyone who signs-up for this service.

Sheriff Walt Wilson stated, “In our efforts to stay on top of the emerging technology, we are adding a new tool to our information arsenal. The Nixle service will assist us in keeping the public informed when dealing with emergencies that affect our community. It is our hope that as many citizens as possible along with businesses, non-profits, schools and churches sign-up for this service." The Sheriff cited situations involving missing persons and severe weather as examples of the type of messages that will be sent and posted.
