LOCATION: Avenal Court & Torrey Pines Drive, Chino Hills

SUSPECT(S): Randy Slajer, 59-year-old, resident of Redlands

VICTIM(S): State of California and a Deputy Sheriff

SUMMARY:

On Sunday, October 14, 2018, at about 11:57 p.m., Deputy J. Drayer attempted to contact the occupant of a suspicious vehicle around Avenal Court and Torrey Pines Drive. The occupant, later identified as Randy Slajer, entered the vehicle and drove away. Drayer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Los Serrano Country Club Drive & Torrey Pines Drive for false registration tabs and expired registration. Slajer fled in his vehicle from Drayer and appeared to be driving under the influence. During the pursuit, Slajer exited the 91 Freeway at Maple Street and attempted to re-enter the freeway. Deputies utilized the Pursuit Intervention Technique (PIT) on the onramp. After one of the PIT maneuvers (two total attempts), Slajer rammed the rear of a Sheriff’s patrol unit resulting in moderate damage. Deputies pursued him for 45 minutes, and about 43 miles to the city of Redlands. Slajer exited the freeway in Redlands where he parked in the driveway of a residence and was arrested without further incident. Slajer was found to be on probation in both Ventura and San Bernardino Counties for Driving Under the Influence. Slajer was booked at the West Valley Detention Center and is being held without bail.

During the pursuit several people were observed recording the pursuit. The Sheriff’s Department requests anyone who recorded the pursuit to please contact Deputy J. Drayer.
