Deputies Arrest Two Subjects for Burglary Charges near Angels Camp

On 10/14/18 around 7:30pm a citizen called in a suspicious vehicle parked near a storage container at the construction site of the new Calaveras Humane Society building on Highway 49 just outside of Angels Camp.

Three Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on scene within a couple minutes. A deputy saw a male subject, later identified as Eric Hendryx (age 42 from Oakland) at one of the storage containers. It appeared to the deputy that Hendryx was manipulating the lock on the storage container. When the deputy turned on his emergency lights, Hendryx ran away. The deputy pursued Hendryx on foot and found Hendryx down a small hill lying on the ground entangled in barbed wire. The deputy detained Hendryx. Meanwhile other deputies began checking around the parked vehicle. Deputies located and detained a second subject, Jason Hackmeier (age 44 from Valley Springs).

Investigation showed the locks on two storage containers had been drilled and wire had been stripped from the crawl space beneath the building. Approximately $1500 worth of damage was done to the building and the storage containers. The two suspects were found to be in possession of burglary tools, narcotics, and narcotics paraphernalia. Hendryx was out on bail from Alameda County and had an ankle monitor. Both Hackmeier and Hendryx were arrested and transported to the Calaveras County Jail where they were booked on multiple charges with $45,000 bail.
