Crossing Guard Struck by Vehicle

On October 12, 2018, at 0728 hrs, SVPD personnel were dispatched to Royal Ave and Vaquero Drive regarding a pedestrian who had been struck by a vehicle. Responding officers learned that the victim was the City of Simi Valley Crossing Guard assigned to the location to assist pedestrians who may be crossing the roadway at the intersection.

The victim, whose identity is being withheld at this time, is a male in his 50’s. He was transported to a local hospital with potentially life threatening injuries. No additional information is available for release at this time on the condition or exact injuries of the pedestrian.

The Simi Valley Police Department’s Traffic Bureau was called to the scene to investigate the collision. According to witnesses, the victim was in the crosswalk at the time and may have pushed a young adult pedestrian out of the way of the oncoming vehicle when he was struck. The driver of the other vehicle is an adult male and is cooperating with investigators. There is nothing to indicate the driver of the vehicle was impaired at the time of the collision.

While the investigation continues, the Simi Valley Police Department is asking anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has relevant information regarding this collision to contact Senior Officer Kevin Van Fleet, (805) 583-6182.
