On October 12, 2018 at 1:08 AM, an officer with the Middleton Police Department observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in the 5200 block of Century Avenue. The officer also noticed that the vehicle nearly struck a curb and was driving down the center of the two eastbound lanes. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was identified as Joshua A. Knihtila, age 38, of Middleton. Officers noted a strong odor of intoxicants coming from Knihtila’s breath and his speech was slurred. Knihtila initially refused to exit his vehicle and was uncooperative with officers.

Following field sobriety testing, Knihtila was arrested for 4th offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI), a felony. He submitted to an evidentiary chemical test of his breath, which registered 0.18 – more than twice the legal limit.

Knihtila was booked into the Dane County Jail for the felony OWI, as well as felony bail jumping and resisting or obstructing an officer. He was also ticketed for operating with a suspended driver’s license and lane deviation.
