Deputies respond to a vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collision on Main Street west of Third Avenue in Hesperia

DATE/TIME: October 10, 2018 / 7:40 PM

INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Main Street West of Third Avenue, Hesperia

VICTIM: Adult female / Positive identification pending

SUMMARY:
On October 10, 2018 at about 7:40 PM, Deputies from the Hesperia Station along with rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle vs. pedestrian traffic collision, just west of the intersection of Main Street and Third Avenue. Deputies arrived on scene and found an adult female pedestrian down in the roadway suffering from major injuries as a result of the collision. The other party, an adult male, who had been driving a Ford F-150 pickup truck was still on-scene and found to have no injuries. The female pedestrian was transported by ground ambulance to Desert Valley Hospital, where despite efforts by doctors, was pronounced deceased at about 8:19 PM.

The Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) conducted the investigation and have determined that the female pedestrian was crossing Main Street outside the marked crosswalk when she was struck by the Ford truck, which was traveling east on Main Street. The driver of the truck immediately stopped and remained on-scene during the investigation. The female victim's identity is pending confirmation from the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office.

Main Street was closed in both directions from Third Avenue to Fifth Avenue until about 9:30 PM while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. At this time, alcohol and speed do not appear to be a factor in the collision and the driver involved was released from the scene.

The collision remains under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact Deputy Eric Getts or Sergeant Doug Hubbard from the Hesperia Station.
