Narrative:
Sheriff’s deputies responded Wednesday morning to a report of a traffic collision where a vehicle had left the roadway and crashed through a fence on Hillcrest Drive east of Duesenberg Drive. When deputies tried to contact the driver of the vehicle, he confronted them with a knife. Deputies tried to convince the man to drop the knife, but he did not comply. Deputies fired a less-lethal bean bag shotgun at the man multiple times in an effort to safely end the confrontation. However, the man did not drop the knife and continued to advance toward the deputies in a threatening manner, leaving them no choice but to use lethal force. Deputies shot the man, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Detective Beau Rodriguez of the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau at (805)384-4723.
