Teenager arrested for making school shooting threats.

At 7:25 AM on October 10, 2018, East High students contacted their School Resource Officer regarding threatening text messages they had received on their phones.  It was discovered that a local teenager, not currently enrolled in classes, had sent several text messages to multiple current East High students containing threats.  The texts included a picture of East High School, gun and knife emoji’s, the words “kill kill kill,” and the statement that he would buy a gun.
School Resource Officers responded to the suspect’s home while patrol officers responded to East High School.  The male teenager suspect, who is a former East High student, did not answer the door when police arrived.  The suspect’s mother was contacted; she responded to the home from her workplace and let officers in.  The suspect was taken into custody without incident and remanded at the McLaughlin Youth Center.  Charges were forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Justice.
The Anchorage Police Department takes these types of situations very seriously.  APD is grateful to the students who immediately contacted authorities after receiving the texts.
