A sheriff’s deputy was patrolling Tuesday morning in the unincorporated community of El Rio, just north of Oxnard, when he saw a woman who was wanted for an outstanding felony warrant for battery on an emergency responder. When the deputy tried to detain the woman, she armed herself with a hammer and ran. After a short foot chase, there was a confrontation between the woman, who was still armed with the hammer, and the deputy. During the confrontation, the woman was shot in the hand. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment of a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Sheriff’s Major Crimes detectives are investigating the incident and are asking anyone in the area who witnessed the confrontation to contact Detective Cyrus Zadeh at (805) 384-3741. |
