Freeze Warning until 09:00AM Wednesday

In the wake of an upper level trough and a surface cold front, cooler air will settle into northern New Mexico late tonight. Temperatures are forecast to drop near or slightly below freezing for portions of the Northeast Plains, the lower Chama river valley, and the Estancia Valley late tonight into early Wednesday. Temperatures will not warm above freezing until mid morning Wednesday. Hats, gloves, and jackets may be needed during the early morning hours. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Freeze Warning, which is in effect from 2 AM to 9 AM MDT Wednesday. The Freeze Watch is no longer in effect.

* LOCATION...This includes the Northeast and Far Northeast Highlands, Union and Harding counties, the lower Chama river valley, as well as the Estancia Valley.

* TIMING...Temperatures are expected to fall below freezing between 2am and 9am Wednesday morning.

* TEMPERATURES...Low temperatures between 29 and 32 degrees.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...These cold temperatures may damage or kill crops and other outdoor vegetation. Additionally, these conditions will not be safe for outdoor animals. Make sure they have a warm shelter and unfrozen water.

* AFFECTED AREAS: HARDING COUNTY ... UNION COUNTY ... ESTANCIA VALLEY ... FAR NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS ... LOWER CHAMA RIVER VALLEY ... NORTHEAST HIGHLANDS

A Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
