Tip of the Week:Driving in Inclement Weather

With the rainfall we’ve experienced this week, it is important that we slow down and take precautions when driving.Roads will be slick, mud and rocks may have slid into the roadways, and there are possibilities of roads being flooded. When planning your drive to work or taking the kids to school, you may want to consider leaving earlier than usual, to allow you to drive at slower speeds and watch for hazards. If you do see a potential hazard, such as mud, debris, or flooding, please call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and we will assure that the proper entities will be contacted to handle the situation.

Take care, and be safe.

Social media is a huge tool used by just about everyone for just about everything.
Things like Facebook, Nixle, and Nextdoor are excellent ways of keeping communities in touch as to what is going on around them.  Additionally, many law enforcement agencies, to include the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, also uses social media as a way of communication with the public and keeping them updated during local emergencies.

Social media is not a way, however, to report a crime.  Station dispatchers do not monitor social media for complaints made about crimes or concerns.  Additional, we can't investigate crimes based solely off of social media posts, as there has to be a report in place first notifying us of the crime in order for us to investigate. To report a crime or concern, citizens have to do it the old fashioned way, and call us.

So with that said, here's how you can report crime: - If it is an emergent situation or crime in progress, call 911 -To make a police report, you can call our station at 661-255-1121 for a deputy to be dispatched to your location or you can come by our station and make a report with our front counter deputy. - There are certain crimes that can be reported online through the LASD crime reporting system at http://shq.lasdnews.net/shq/SORTS/sorts_intro.aspx You can report the following incidents online: •Lost or stolen cell phones valued $950 or less •Lost or stolen property valued $950 or less •Vandalism, excluding graffiti, where damage is valued under $400 •Theft from an unlocked vehicle valued $950 or less •Theft from an open or unsecured area valued $950 or less - If you have information about a crime or illegal activity, you can also submit tips to us anonymously through www.LACrimeStoppers.org, or by calling 1-800-222-8477. -Los Angeles County Sheriff also has a new mobile app that you can download. The app allows you to make qualifying online reports and submit anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers.
