Telephone scams
The Wood County Dispatch Center is again receiving a lot of calls from the public regarding scam calls. The dispatch center is aware of these scams.
The IRS scam: where they are threatening you with arrests or warrants is a SCAM. Do not respond to this.
Social Security scam where they are saying there is a judgement against your Social Security is a SCAM.
The Grand Parent scam where they claim to be your grandchild or a Police Officer calling saying they were in an accident or arrested and need bond is a SCAM.
There are many more scams out there, too many to list. Please think twice about any phone call you receive saying: you have won money, owe money or friends or family needing help or money.
You do not pay money to win money. You will not be called and warned that a warrant will be issued for you.
If in doubt, call your bank, electric, gas company etc. call the phone number off of your bill, not the phone number they give you and verify the information.
Please share with friends and family so people can stop being scammed out of their money.
Thanks
