Today, October 3, 2018, around 11:00 a.m. San Mateo Police responded to the 2200 block of Isabelle Avenue on a report of an in-progress residential burglary. The caller told our dispatchers that home security video captured a man inside of their home. Officers quickly arrived on scene and searched the residence, but the man was not located. Officers confirmed the man forced entry into the home through a rear door and stole various items to include electronics and a bicycle.

San Mateo Police Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) also responded to assist with the investigation. CRU Officers reviewed the home security video and immediately recognized the suspect to be known probationer, 19-year-old Tenzin Rinchen. CRU Officers contacted Rinchen at his residence and arrested him for the burglary and an active warrant. CRU Officers were able to locate and recover the stolen property from the earlier burglary in Rinchen’s home.

We wanted to take a moment to thank the homeowners for quickly calling SMPD to report the crime in progress and equipping their home with security video. This is a great example of our community-police partnership to fight crime!
