End of Watch: October 3, 1950
On today’s date in 1950, El Segundo Police Officer Alexander Haddock succumbed to injuries he received one year earlier on June 13, 1949 when he was shot by a burglary suspect.
Officer Haddock had responded to El Segundo High School on a burglary call and became involved in a shootout with the suspect. He was able to return fire and kill the suspect, but received a gunshot wound to his leg. Doctors were unable to remove the bullet and he succumbed to complications.
Officer Haddock was 57 years old and had served the El Segundo Police Department for 14 years when he died. He was survived by his wife, son and daughter.
