This morning through the P3 Tips app, information was received by the Sheriff's Office of a male student making threats of violence toward a teacher and fellow students at the Hilton Head Island High School. After the tip was received, the male student was identified and quickly located by Sheriff's Office school resource officers, who found a pocket knife in the male student's possession.

The male student was detained and is being interviewed. The male student—a juvenile—will be petitioned to the family court on the charge of Weapon on School Property. The original threat, which referenced the male student using a firearm, is under investigation. As of this time, it is not known whether the male student has access to firearms at home, but that possibility will be addressed.
