Advisory

Drop off box for the safe disposal of drugs installed in Beaufort County Government Building in Bluffton.

Through a partnership between the Beaufort Memorial Hospital, the Sheriff’s Office and the Lowcountry Alliance for Healthy Youth. a third drop off box for the safe disposal of prescription and non-prescription drugs has been installed in Beaufort County.

The third drug drop off box is located on the second floor of the Beaufort County Government Building, 4819 Bluffton Parkway in Bluffton. Residents can drop off their unused medications at the Bluffton location between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

This past spring, the first two drug drop boxes were installed at the Beaufort County Sheriff’s offices in Beaufort at 2001 Duke Street and on Hilton Head Island at 70 Shelter Cove Lane. Those drop boxes remain available to the public 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

One of the many opportunities for abuse and accidental overdose exists in people's own homes. We ask residents to take advantage of the drug drop off boxes and dispose of their medications regularly to reduce the risk of abuse and overdose.

The results of the drug drop off box initiative have been encouraging, as so far, over 300 pounds of unused prescription and non-prescription drugs have been collected and safely disposed of in Beaufort County.

We appreciate your partnership and continued commitment to the safety of our community.
