Narrative:
On September 28, 2018, deputies from the Sheriff’s Ojai Station were dispatched to a shots fired call in the 100 block of North Pueblo Avenue in the unincorporated area of Meiners Oaks. Upon arrival, they discovered a male victim lying on the street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.   Deputies and emergency medical services attempted life saving efforts, but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The investigation quickly identified Richard Arellanes as the subject who shot and killed the victim.  Arellanes and the victim became involved in a dispute which escalated into the shooting.  Arellanes was arrested for one count of 2nd degree murder.  He was booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility and remains in custody on $1,000,000.00 bail.  Arellanes is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on October 2, 2018.

The victim’s name is not being released until his identity is confirmed by the Ventura County Medical Examiner’s Office and proper notification can be made to his family.
