Narrative:
Detectives from the Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit (PCU) and the Sheriff’s Major Crimes Bureau concluded an investigation involving Rene Gutierrez.  Gutierrez was determined to be the primary source of narcotics to a person who recently died from an apparent drug overdose in the City of Moorpark. 
 
On September 25, 2018, detectives located and arrested Gutierrez in the City of Moorpark.  At that time, Gutierrez was in possession of controlled substances and drug paraphernalia.
 
On September 27, 2018, Gutierrez appeared in Ventura County Superior Court for arraignment on one felony count of furnishing a controlled substance, two misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.  She remains in custody at the Todd Road Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.  Gutierrez’s next scheduled court date is October 11, 2018.
 
The Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit is a task force made up of members from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Thousand Oaks Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, the Simi Valley Police Department and the Ventura Police Department. The primary mission of the task force is combatting the transfer of legal prescription medication to the illegal market. In addition, the task force works to identify and stop new trends of abuse among the younger population and investigates overdoses due to both prescription medication and illicit drug use. 
 
The Sheriff’s Office encourages the public to anonymously use the email [email protected] to report pharmaceutical related crimes involving prescription medications.
