Sheriff Richard J. Benhke reports that on 9/28/2018 at approximately 07:42am, his Deputies were called out to investigate a personal injury accident that occurred at the intersection of Pokagon Hwy and Oak Grove Rd in La Grange Twp Cass County, MI. 31 year old Erika Lane Stoop and her 4 year old daughter of Dowagiac, MI was driving westbound on Pokagon Hwy. Stoop stated that she was having a medical issue when she put her hazards on to pull over. Stoop stated that she then passed out. Witness state, Stoop ran off the roadway right traveling up and over Oak Grove Rd hitting a tree on the other side of the roadway. Both Stoop and her Daughter were transported by Life Care Ambulance to South Bend Memorial for there injuries. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor. Stoop was wearing a seatbelt and a front facing car seat was used by her daughter.
