Operation Clear Track 2018

The Fairfield Police Department is working with Amtrak in promoting safety around railroad tracks. Amtrak has railroad tracks that travel through the City of Fairfield in several locations. Trains traveling on these tracks move at considerable speed and often require several miles to come to a stop. As a result each year there are incidents on Amtrak tracks throughout the nation resulting in serious injury or death of individuals.

Amtrak has developed a program called "Operation Clear Track." This operation will occur tomorrow on Tuesday September 25, 2018. The operation includes local law enforcement focusing on locations in their jurisdiction where Amtrak train tracks cross roadways. Educational material has been provided by Amtrak and staffing for tomorrows operation is provided by your local Fairfield Police Department.

Please be careful at all times when crossing railroad tracks. It is often difficult to judge the distance of an approaching train in the distance. For pedestrians it is equally difficult to judge how fast a train is approaching due to the various speeds that trains travel the tracks. Trains are not capable of avoiding collisions, so be sure to give them the right of way whenever possible.
