Advisory

Update on the September 16th Blazing Star Lane shooting. Reginald Bascom Jr. wanted for attempted murder.

On September 16th at approximately 6:05 p.m., Sheriff's Office deputies responded to Blazing Star Lane, Hilton Head Island to a report of shots fired with two gunshot victims. When deputies arrived, the two adult male gunshot victims—one shot in the torso and the other in the hand—were located and transported to medical facilities: one to Savannah Memorial and the other to the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC).

Responding deputies learned that prior to their arrival, the subject responsible for the shooting had fled. No physical description of the subject was available at that time, but witnesses reported seeing a silver sedan with a rear spoiler leaving Blazing Star Lane at a high rate of speed.

Sheriff's Office investigators responded to Blazing Star Lane to interview witnesses and examine the crime scene for forensic evidence. During their examination of the scene, investigators recovered multiple shell casings near the road and discovered that—in addition to the two men being wounded—a residence had been struck by bullets during the shooting incident.

Last week, Sheriff's Office investigators located and seized the silver vehicle—2006 Lexus IS—as it was identified as the vehicle that witnesses observed speeding away from Blazing Star Lane after the shooting. Also last week, the owner of the silver Lexus, 25-year-old Reginald Bascom Jr. of Hilton Head Island, was identified as the subject who shot and wounded both men.

Sheriff's Office investigators met with a Beaufort County magistrate on Thursday—September 20th—and presented the facts of the case. The magistrate found probable cause to issue warrants for Reginald Bascom Jr.'s arrest for Attempted Murder, Possession of a Weapon in the Commission of a Violent Crime and Discharging a Firearm into a Dwelling.

Investigators have been unable to locate Bascom Jr. as of yet and are asking for information from the public to help locate him. Anyone with information on the whereabouts of wanted subject Reginald "Reggie" Bascom Jr. is encouraged to contact Staff Sergeant Eric Calendine at 843-255-3427 or Crimestoppers 1-888-CrimeSC if wishing to remain anonymous and for possible reward. Bascom Jr. should be considered armed and dangerous.

Status of the Gunshot Victims
The wounded man transported to Savannah Memorial has since been released from the hospital, while the wounded man transported to MUSC remains hospitalized.
