Mayor Ras J. Baraka, Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose and Fire Chief Rufus L. Jackson promoted seven firefighters to the rank of Captain at a public ceremony held at Newark Municipal Council Chambers in City Hall today.

Promoted Newark Fire Division members are: Saadiq F. Gaddy, Louis L. Manning, Jr., Tarleeb G. Graham, Bayan W. Stevens, Dennis J. O’Neill, II, Delwin M. Carr and Joel Lugardo.

“We are proud to present these new Fire Division Captains to the people of the City of Newark,” Mayor Baraka said. “Their expertise and guidance will strengthen the effectiveness of those they lead while supporting the ongoing safety of our neighborhoods.”

“Because we hired nearly 70 firefighters last year, these promotions will ensure that our rank and file firefighters receive training and direction from the best and brightest,” Director Ambrose said. “We value the experience, knowledge and leadership abilities these new Captains offer to the Newark Fire Division.”
