On September 23, 2018 at approximately 5:58 pm, an SVPD Traffic Officer was on duty in the 800 block of Royal Avenue in his black and white police vehicle with his red and blue emergency lights fully illuminated from an enforcement stop. As he sat in his vehicle completing a citation, an alcohol impaired driver identified as Hector Moreno Gonzalez, collided with the patrol vehicle in a slow speed collision. Neither Gonzalez nor the Officer was injured in the collision, and after a field sobriety evaluation, Gonzalez was arrested for DUI registering at a .16 BAC. A charge of Child Endangerment was also added as he had his wife and small child in his vehicle at the time of the collision.
