Full Notification

The Janesville Police Department launched a new program over the summer to promote kid’s health by encouraging them to engage in outdoor activities while at the same time building community relations through positive police interactions. The program was called “Where in the City is the JPD Bike Officer”.

Each week throughout the summer, a public notification was sent out giving clues to where the JPD bike officer could be located within the city and the one hour time period they would be there that day. The first 25 kids that were able to locate the bike officer during the designated time, and who provided the correct password, received an immediate prize such as movie tickets, free pizza certificates, pool passes, etc. Kids were encouraged to ride their bikes or walk to the locations if possible, which were strategically picked for accessibility.

All kids who found the officer within the hour, and who gave the correct password, were entered into an end of summer drawing with a chance at winning one of two new bikes, a video gaming system, or a fishing rod and reel! Winners were announced at the last event of the summer.

The program was a great success with over 450 kids participating!
