Help improve safety and security in your neighborhood by taking the following crime prevention steps:

• Get to know your neighbors and start a Neighborhood Watch group
• Lock your vehicle and do not leave valuables in plain sight (e.g. purse, cell phone, laptop, GPS, etc.)
• Shred all documents containing personal information
• Trim trees and shrubs at your residence so doors and windows are visible from the street
• Lock doors and windows when you are not home or working outside
• Lock gates, garages and sheds after each use
• Store large items (e.g. bicycles, ladders, mowers, tools, etc.) in a locked garage or shed
• Keep valuables (e.g. cash, jewelry, collectibles, camera, stocks, firearms, etc.) in a safe or safety deposit box
• Have packages sent to your place or employment or to a neighbor who is home during the day
• Address environmental measures - report street light repairs on MySantaClara at http://goo.gl/u5PM5x
• If you have a house and/or car alarm, use it
• Install video surveillance camera(s)
• Be observant.
