Notable Cases

On Monday, 09-10-18 at 3:01 a.m., Officer Sunga conducted a pedestrian stop on two subjects pushing carts on the 100 block of Lake Merced Boulevard. One of the subjects, a 44-year old San Francisco resident, was in possession of brass knuckles and unlawful drug paraphernalia and was cited for those offenses.

On Tuesday, 09-11-18 at 11:07 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the unit block of Jacqueline Court regarding an open garage door. The landlord reported she hadn’t heard from her tenants and went to check on the house. Officers discovered the tenants were involved in the production of marijuana. This case was referred to the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force for investigation.

When Officer Bermudez asked the subject to stop, the subject did not comply. Officer Yip and Officer Sunga arrived to assist, and the subject yelled at the officers and took an aggressive stance towards Officer Bermudez. The subject, a 39-year old San Francisco resident, was under the influence of a narcotic, and he was cited for being under the influence of a controlled substance and for resisting a peace officer.

On Thursday, 09-13-18 at 8:45 p.m., Officer Jackson-Berrios was dispatched to the Kaiser Medical building on Hickey Boulevard on a report of a female in a blue Hyundai Tucson who was impaired. The reporting party said the female was initially driving on highway 280 with no lights on, and the vehicle was swerving in and out of lanes. The reporting party then followed her into the parking lot on Hickey Boulevard and removed the keys from her vehicle. Officer Jackson-Berrios conducted field sobriety tests on the driver and determined she was under the influence. The driver, a 41-year old Brisbane resident, was arrested for driving under the influence. After gaining consent to search the subject, Officer Maddison found a black rock (suspected heroin) wrapped in plastic inside the subject’s pants pocket, as well as a hypodermic needle and two pills wrapped in foil. The reporting party, a 75-year old Daly City resident, said she was at the ATM withdrawing money on Monday 09-10-18 at 2:30 p.m. The reporting party said prior to walking up to the ATM, she was greeted by a Middle Eastern female who waved hello to her. The reporting party waved back and continued onto the ATM. The reporting party said she withdrew some money and then started to walk back to her car when she was approached by a man in a vehicle who said his wife was trying to talk to her. The reporting party looked at the female and realized she was the same one who had greeted her earlier. The woman motioned the reporting party over to a bench where she was sitting and told her she was “desperately” trying to get to Florida and needed money for the trip. The reporting party said the subject became “very insistent”, and “begged” her for money. The reporting party said the woman showed her several pieces of what she thought was gold jewelry around her neck. She told her she would sell her the jewelry in exchange for the money to go to Florida. The reporting party “reluctantly agreed” to sell the jewelry and went back to the ATM and withdrew more money. The reporting party said she gave the woman $850 for seven pieces of jewelry. The reporting party said the woman then got into a black SUV and left the parking lot. The reporting party said she went to a jeweler to have the jewelry appraised, and she was told the jewelry was not real. The reporting party described the woman as being Middle Eastern, approximately 45-50 years old, 5’5”, 140 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes and wore a white head scarf and long white dress. Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up, and I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t actually live there. Please note: the City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
