"True" beat cop retires after 27 years of service to the Community of San Leandro
One of San Leandro's finest is retiring today after 27 years of service to the City of San Leandro. Officer Patrick "Pj" Kyle will work his final day on patrol in San Leandro's Washington Manor neighborhood also known as "Beat 6."
Officer Kyle was hired by the San Leandro Police Department on September 23rd, 1991 and immediately attended the Oakland Police Academy. Upon graduation, Officer Kyle completed his field training and was assigned to the Washington Manor.
Officer Kyle, a native of Hayward, Ca, grew fond of the mostly residential neighborhood located on the southern edge of the city. Officer Kyle became a staple in the community, getting to know residents and business owners and providing the quality service SLPD is known for.
With the exception of a special assignment as a School Resource Officer between 1996 to 1998, Officer Kyle served all his years as a Police Officer known as "3L26", SLPD's radio call sign for the Washington Manor beat.
In addition to Officer Kyle's beat responsibilities, he was also a Field Evidence Technician, a team leader for the Evidence Response Team and played a critical role in implementing new public safety software for the agency.
In a message to Officer Kyle from Chief Jeff Tudor, he wrote; "Pat’s experience and understanding of how to police the San Leandro community, specifically Beat 6, will be missed."
Officer Kyle has left his mark with SLPD; his legacy will carry on through the next generation of officers who diligently patrol our streets, keeping San Leandro a safe community.
Congratulations Pj, we wish you well in retirement!
